Like...OHMYGAWD!

I'm sorry in advance for posting this video of a group of overwrought girls watching the finale of American Idol. But, you have to see it. (Blame Pamie.)

Watching this just makes me...tired and amused and, oh Lord, ever so glad I survived the Drama of this age to live to experience a more reasonable phase of human existence.

Finally, I'm reminded of my favorite line in The Virgin Suicides. The scene finds Cecelia, a 13-year-old girl in the hospital following a suicide attempt. It goes like this:

Doctor: What are you doing here, honey? You're not even old enough to know how bad life gets.
Cecilia: Obviously, Doctor, you've never been a 13-year-old girl.

Lord. I'm sort of sorry I watched that. I identified with the girl with glasses in the long-sleeved red shirt who was the quietest one, but picked up enough of the mass hysteria to be sitting and sobbing in the corner by the second scene.

One of the people I know here doing National Novel Writing Month, is about 23 years old and writing a book about high school kids. Which she says is a choice that has oodles of built-in drama. It must; the NaNoWriMo goal is to have written 50,000 words by November 30. Her current word count is 95,093.

Dayum. My characters are adults and I've been plugging away like crazy and am at 37,644. :-)

SCREEEEEAAMMMMM!

That little red shirted girl's initial reaction killed me--the whole mouth-agape-for-ten-minutes was just hilarious.

I just keep watching it, God help me.

I posted a comment before this and now don't know where it went.

O Teenage Drama how I don't miss you. But with a 10 year old rapidly approaching this "phase", I'm more than a little frightened. This will be a great video for their moms to replay at their weddings.
